  1. Noah seems to be very bright and preparing for his future! My student struggled though school and used social media as well, but also spent a lot of time gaming. Noah seems to have more opportunities to use technology at school than my student. However, they all seem to be used mainly for research and Microsoft Word. I feel that if teachers provided more engaging and motivating assignments using technology like creating videos, memes, and other multi modal texts, they wouldn't feel like Noah. They would consider this enjoyable and wouldn't request "free time."

  2. Noah sure does seem like a very bright and headstrong young man! He sounds like he has his future planned and is ready to take on anything! I really enjoyed reading through your case study and the quotes that you used were appropriate for the text. I also agree that teachers should incorporate more technology and movement into the classroom so that that students don't become so distracted and rowdy. Good job!

  3. I agree with Angela on the importance of using multimodal texts and projects to increase engagement. It was incredible to read about him tracking the livestock markets on his own. It reminded me of what Prensky said in Deconstructing: "Digital wisdom means not just manipulating technology easily or even creatively; it means making wiser decisions because one is enhanced by technology." Noah is definitely using technology to enhance his decision making when it comes to agriculture. I had never considered the effects of the observatory on the entire county before-I didn't know the whole county was no cell service! It shows ingenuity that people find work arounds to still communicate and gain information as needed.

  4. I love the fact that he has responsibilities that keep his attention rather than having his face stuck in a phone or computer all the time. I feel that sometimes we see too many students who are so over stimulated that they cannot shut down at night and also they become very agitated when their technology does not work. I like to see that he has other interests and is okay with the fact that he is not able to use technology all the time. I do think that this may put him at a disadvantage when he goes to college because of the high use of technology at the secondary level. He seems like he is a good kid with a good head on his shoulders.

  5. Your young person seems like a great kid! I thought the quotes you chose enhanced what you were trying to say. I think his interests in the market could definitely be incorporated into an assignment. I think it's important to create as many open ended assignments as possible (while still teaching the standard you intend to hit) to increase student engagement! Nice paper!

  6. I am impressed with Noah researching livestock exchanges on the internet! It really shows how passionate and motivated he is about becoming a farmer. I was also glad to hear his experience with powerpoint since there were several other young students interviewed who had zero experience with such a basic tool.
